Zips & Buttonholes Workshop — Master the Two Most Feared Techniques!

Zips and buttonholes are two techniques that often stop sewists in their tracks. But here’s the good news — they’re not as scary as they seem! In this hands-on workshop, we’ll demystify them both and give you the skills to tackle zips and buttonholes with confidence.

This class is essentially two masterclasses in one:

• Morning: Zips (lapped, centred, and invisible)

• Afternoon: Buttonholes (sewing, spacing, and layout)

By the end of the day, you’ll not only understand how to sew zips and buttonholes like a pro — but you’ll also leave with a cute boxy zippered pouch if time allows.

Skill Level:

This class is suitable for confident beginners — you’ll need to know how to thread and run a sewing machine and have a basic grasp of seam allowances.

What you’ll learn:

• How to use the zipper foot and buttonhole foot

• How to sew three types of zips — lapped, centred, and invisible — and when to use them

• How to sew buttonholes and align them neatly on garments

• Tips for accuracy, spacing, and professional-looking finishes

What’s included:

• Use of a Brother A80 or Bernina 335 sewing machine (or bring your own)

• 5.5 hours of expert tuition in a small group (max 6 students)

• All materials, including an invisible zip foot

• A fun, engaging, and supportive studio atmosphere

• Unlimited tea, coffee, and baked treats

What to bring:

• (Optional) Your sewing machine with all accessories (zipper + buttonhole feet, foot pedal, and power cords)

• Fabric scissors and your sewing kit (kits available to purchase in our studio store)
