Have you done a little bit of sewing and want to take the next step forward?
Cushion cover are a great beginner project - quick and achievable.
You'll learn to cut out fabric, follow pattern instructions and sew nice even straight seam allowances. And the best news is that you will learn to insert an invisible zip into your cushion cover. Progress!
Skill level: Beginner. You must have a basic understanding of your machine and how to thread and run it. If you have done the Beginner One day class or weekend with us, this class is the perfect next step.
What you will learn:
- Sewing with seam allowances
- Construction
- Following a pattern
- Insertion of a zip into the cushion cover
- Sew basic straight stitches to the seam allowance and zig zag the edges
- Trouble shoot basic machine problems
What is included:
- Sewing machines for your use - Bernina 335 or Brother Innovis A80
- 3 hours of expert tuition with only 3-6 students in the class
- A fun and engaging atmosphere
- Copius cups of tea and coffee.
What you need to bring
- OPTIONAL: Your clean machine along with all its power cords and the foot pedal, the machines accessories, especially all the feet. Note that you will need to bring this up two flights of stairs yourself.
- Your fabric scissors and sewing kit - if you don't have one, you can buy one here and have it waiting for you in the class.
- 1.5m cotton/linen/upholstery fabric of your choice - not stretchy
- 45cm long invisible zip
- 50cm cushion insert
- Matching Gutermann or Rasant thread
- OPTIONAL: Buy a kit of materials and have it waiting for you in class for $55.
- Your lunch - there is a fridge and microwave available.
