BEGINNER LEARN TO QUILT COURSE

Join Lorena Uriarte, renowned Modern Quilter, to learn the basics of Quilting.

We’ll take it nice and easy for our first quilt - a simple achievable quilt block to construct babysize quilt.  Each week we will build on the skills learnt from the previous week to create our finished quilt.

Lorena will guide you patiently and enthusiastically to read a pattern, construction steps, tips and tricks,  piece together the quilt top, basting the layers together, machine or hand quilt and then bind. 

Finished size: 9 x 12” blocks

Skill level: Complete beginner to quilting but must know the basics of sewing and be fairly confident with your machine

What you will learn:

• Basic & beyond Quilting Principles
• How to cut fabric straight
• How to read instructions
• Construction basics
• Hand or machine quilting
• Binding and Mitred corners

What is included:

• Beginner kit with Pre cut fabrics in a choice of 3 colour ways - dark, neutral and light, thread, 1/4inch foot and bias tape
• A sewing machine for you to use - Brother A80 or Bernina 335
• Instructions to take home
• Exceptional tuition with only 5 others in the class
• Copious cups of tea and coffee. Lorena might even bake some treats!

What to expect:

• There will be breaks throughout the classes to have a stretch and a cuppa, or lunch
• There is no preparation for the class needed - Your starter kit is included and will be waiting for you.
• You may need to do some homework over the weeks. 
• While we endeavour to have your quilt as close to finished as possible, you may have to add the binding on after the class is finished. 

What you need to bring

• OPTIONAL: Your machine along with all it's power cords, all the feet accessories and the foot pedal -- NOTE: you will need to carry your machine up two flights of stairs
• Your fabric scissors and sewing kit - if you don't have one, you can buy one here and have it waiting for you in the class.
• Weekends - Your lunch.  There is a fridge and microwave available

Optional purchase to have waiting at your class:

Beginner Quilting kit - rotary cutter, spare blades, mat, 1/4 ruler, square ruler x 2, long ruler - TBC

10am to 3pm each week - total of 15 hours in total
